Carnival Of Cajamarca
This eventlasts almost a month; citizens make a lot of activities during February, it’s more a traditional than a seasonal holiday.
They celebrate carnivals with their own way, doing parades and wearingcolorful costumes, also giving improvised poetry.
They do a lot of activities to celebrate it such as “El Jueves de compadres” celebrated fifteen days before the carnival, the “Bando de Carnaval” eightdays before the carnival, leaded by the majors of the city, when they announce the arrival of the “king Momo” and the start of the festivity, they also choose a queen for the carnival. The central dayof the carnival they do the parade with floats, bands that perform with the “Ño Carnavalón” (the spirit of the carnival) and his court.
They make a special outfit every year for that importantoccasion: colorful costumes and a beautiful choreography previously rehearsed are made for this tradition.
During this holiday you can eat food like cuy, shambar, puchero, sancocho, humitas, caldo verde ychicha de jora. Most families prepare lots of food for their relatives and then they can go together to see the parades and other celebrations. It’s a good opportunity to be together as a family.Childs and teenagers celebrate this festivity with their own way, during this month, you see them throwing water to each other, they can also play with painting or flour.
