The sea and fishing in Mexico
Do these images make you know? Perhaps you identified and some of these place because they are part of our territory. But do you know how much sea hasactually Mexico and what fishing activities are conducted in it?
Mexican maritime zones
The Maritime Zone is the sea that corresponds to each country with a coast, and where can exercise theirsovereignty. This area is mainly divided into two parts: the Territorial Sea and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). To understand better, hover your mouse over the image below and watch the seaareas are:
 The sardine is the most produce fish, but shrimp which leaves more money for producers, because although we captured 3.8 times less than the sardine, its price is higher and moresold abroad.
Types fishing
There are three types of fishing:
• The deep sea fishing: the most important in our country. It takes place far from the coast in large ships. They fish withlarge nets or long cable guides to that hook baited hooks. They can be at sea for several days or weeks. They generally have a cooling chamber where it caught hold and facilities to processand package the final product.
• The coastal fisheries: takes place near the coast, in motor boats that travel in two or more team’s fishermen with nets or hooks. His last work days when most24 hours. This is the mode that most people concerned and the oldest, but is of low productivity.
• The aquaculture: performed on farms where fish, shellfish or mollusks live either atsea, or in enclosed areas, lakes and ponds. There they feed and care. As you arrive at the right age, retire and give up for sale.
Places where there is more fishing
Sonora, Sinaloa, BajaCalifornia and Baja California Sur are the major producing states. It is noteworthy that the Federal District is the only state without fishing throughout Mexico, as shown on the map below.
