Man and symbol
(1806 - 1872)
Benito Juarez is the mainprotagonist of the drama that renders Mexico as a free sovereign nation. He represents the second consummation of National Independence; his unquestionable love for the country and his stubborn defense of the sovereignty held back a new attempt to conquer our territory during the renaissance of European imperialism. His historic legacy includes the design of a liberal and modern order. The Reform Lawsare the closest example of the struggle for the new justice, the unity, the freedom and international respect. In Benito Juarez is resumed a history of tragedy and glory. Remembered as a man and leader in this hall, heart of the Nation.
Imperishable image
At this death, Benito Juarez became a symbol. His image began to fill the popular iconography; in this hall are exhibited medals, coins andcondecorations with the name of effigy of Don Benito Juarez that throughout history have represented a permanent tribute of the people and government of Mexico to The Benefactor of the Americas.

Since the Consummation of the independence the old imperial order by Iturbide (1821 – 1822) and Maximilian(1864 – 1867) faced the new liberal and republican projects nationwide.
Of those political and military tensions the restoration of the republic headed by Benito Juarez emerged triumphant.

The Law of Juarez

This abolished special courts except the clergy and military which ceased to intervene in civil matters. Don Benito Juarez opened the way for the removal of privileges that still wieldedthe old corporations regime.
Government tested
Following the Reform War (1858 - 1860), a serious financial problem would make it difficult to develop the nation, Johnson then took a firm decision: to strengthen peace and promote economic empowerment in the country. In July 1861 the government decreed the suspension of payment of the foreign debt, as they affect relations with France Spain andEngland.
These two countries gave up in trying defending their interests through armed intervention, but French troops landed in Veracruz and headed to the Midwest. A memorable defeat at Puebla on May 5, 1862, was the signal that the armies of Napoleon III were not invincible. However, this episode was not enough for the imperialists a long and cruel war was outlined in the Mexican Orisons.
Hislife plan
Benito Juarez enriched his political investiture with personal experiences and gave it permanence and vitality. His humble origins hindered his intellectual aspiration such as learning the Spanish language; this marginalized status was reason enough for his future political action.
