Introduction

The reserves are defined as those amounts of hydrocarbons that are anticipated will be recovered commercially ofaccumulations known a given date. Consequently, the concept of reserves constitutes only the recoverable and exploitable part of the oil resources in a certain time.Classification of Reserves

º Proved Reserves.
Attributed to known reservoirs, proved reserves can be estimated with reasonable certainty. Ingeneral, reserves are considered proved if commercial producibility of the reservoir is supported by actual production
or formation tests. The term proved refers to the estimated volume of reserves andnot just to the productivity of the well or reservoir. In certain instances, proved reserves may be assigned on the basis of a combination of core analysis and/or electrical and other type logs thatindicate the reservoirs are analogous to reservoirs in the same areas that are producing, or have demonstrated the ability to produce in a formation test.

º Unproved Reserves.
These are based ongeologic and/or engineering data similar to that used in estimates of proved reserves, but technical, contractual, or regulatory uncertainties preclude such reserves being classified as proved. Estimatesof unproved reserves may be made for internal planning of special evaluations, but are not routinely compiled. Unproved reserves are not to be added to proved reserves because of different levels...
