Catalonia, New State Of Europe?
The independence of Catalonia is one of the hottest topics debated in Spain. And rightly so, this is the possible future of a country. There are differentopinions spread all over Spain, and also in Catalonia.
Firstly, if Catalonia would be independent, Catalan culture and tradition could be respected as any other, also Catalan would become anofficial and first language and it wouldn’t be underestimated. Moreover, a central government, which only ensure the interests of the country, would make, maybe not rich, but a stable socially, culturally and economically country. Even more, and if the situation is favourable, the people could recover the historical memory; and, in addition, they could make the Catalan art one of the mostimportant internationally.
On the other hand, Catalonia will be no different than Spain in the economic crisis there right now. In the case that it become independent, the early years will bedifficult financially, because they would have to deal with the crisis without help from Spain or the EU, at least for a few years. In addition, the government will be forming and structuring, therefore Catalonia wouldn’t have a good organization from the very beginning. Moreover, a boycott could start in Spain against Catalan products, which would make it even more difficult for trade andeconomic stability of the new country. Possibly, many people will have to leave the new country for political reasons or work; in this way there would be a decline in the population and that, maybe, would be counterproductive at a time when Catalonia needs to be the point of attention.
In conclusion, the independence is possible but difficult. Even being achieved it, will not be an easyroad to reach a political stability, but with effort it could be achieved. So, the Catalans will feel finally made, and the Spanish people won’t feel Catalans like foreigners in their own country.
