In science fiction teleportation orteleportation, is the process of moving people, objects or particles from one place to another instantly (as in The Fly or StarTrek), without using conventional methods of transportation, but in real life is notteleportation a matter of moving matter but information.
Thus, quantum teleportation is a technique used by scientists to transfer quantum information from one system to another. The latter does nottransport the system itself, nor does it allow communication of information at superluminal speeds (faster than light), also rearranges the particles of a macroscopic object to copy the shape ofanother object. Its distinctive feature is that it can convey the information in a quantum superposition, useful for communication and computation.
Physicists have been able to exchange informationbetween the particles of light (photons) or between atoms, provided they are next to each other. In 2009, a team of scientists from the University of Maryland and Michigan was able to send informationbetween two isolated atoms at a distance of one meter, marking the first time that photons are used to "teleport" over long distances and is appreciated capacity retention.
But recently, researchers atthe Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Microscale, University of Science and Technology in Anhui (China) and Department of Physics, Tsinghua University (Beijing) have achieved a new milestoneteleporting information between photons over a distance of almost ten years miles (16 km), ie without having to travel in fiber channels. Demonstrate the feasibility of space-based experiments and an...
