Introducción
“Monte Albán, una de las primeras ciudades de Mesoamérica prehispánica, se fundó hace aproximadamente 2500 años en el Valle de Oaxaca, en elsur de México. Establecida por gente local, Monte Albán representa un nuevo tipo de asentamiento, distinto a cualquier comunidad previa en la región por su ubicación sobre cerros que se elevan 350 m sobre el fondo del valle, y por tener miles de habitantes, arquitectura monumental, escritura y una marcada diferenciación social.” (Winter 2003:277)
El análisis de la cerámica forma parte fundamentaldel trabajo arqueológico es por eso que uno de los principales objetivos en el proyecto arqueológico de Caso era la clasificación cerámica de Monte Albán.
