Chapter 4 a child called it
In this chapter the abuse towards David intensifies. His mom leaves him without food and makes him wear the same clothes every day. Because ofthis situation David starts to look for ways to eat without his mother noticing. He tried stealing from his classmates, from the store and even begging forfood on his way to school but he always gets caught and receives severe punishments from his mom. Not only the beating but the no eating, no bed, no affectionfor him were some of the ways he was being mistreated.
He begins to lose his self respect, he feels alone. The only person he taught was his savior orprotector, his father, gave up on the situation. At first he tried to defend him and bring him food and argue with his mother but he always came out empty handed.Tired of the fighting and Mother’s attitude, Father gave up. This was a really big letdown for David and he hated his mother for everything but hated his fathereven more for standing there and doing nothing for him. So he begins to rely only on himself to save him. Even though he always got caught he never stopslooking for ways to eat and ways to not get caught.
Regarding his mother, in this chapter she has another child. She neglects David the chance of being part ofthe family and when one of David’s teacher noticed something strange on David’s behavior she reports it to the school principal but Mother was a great liarand said that it was David’s way to get attention because he was jealous of the new baby. She seems like a monster who always gets her way. No matter what.
