Childhood Obesity

Although TV and commercials show a healthy and fit population, childhood Obesity has increased because there is more consumption of junk food, because there has been an increasein a lazy life, and lastly because there is a presence of conflicting relationships between parents and children.

TV and commercials want to show a healthy and fit population of either men orwomen. You usually never see an overweight person on TV. It is not appealing to peoples and it will not show an ideal idea of what a person wants to looks like. “Children are being exposed to the world’smarketing might, there needs to be a ban on all forms of marketing, not just television adverts.” (Sharon Beder). TV is a really powerful influence; kids spend about five or more hours a day in frontof one. If classes were taught on TV they would probably learn more.

During the years, childhood obesity has increased due to several things such, junk food, physical inactivity, or parents’behavior. “Childhood obesity is one of the most serious public health challenges of the 21st century” (World Health Organization). Globally, in 2010, the number of overweight children under the age offive was estimated to be over 42 million. Close to 35 million of these children are living in developing countries.

An increased consumption of junk food is one of the major problems of obesity.Definitely consuming more calories, than our body needs causes the caloric balance to accumulate more calories and for every 7500 calories that our body accumulates increases 1 kg of weight, and thisleads to a picture of obesity. Places like McDonalds are one of the many fast food restaurants that produce cheap food in a low quality range. To lure the children to a delicious meal, McDonalds uses “thehappy meal.” This meal includes food with too many calories and fat and the precious toy that kids are looking for.
