Children Tourism
1.1 What needs to be considered when you speak about child tourism
The objective of this chapter is to identify whataspects need to be considered when organizing tourism trips or activities for children in a rural environment. The level of observation and control ofthese aspects varies upon the group structure (if children are travelling with their families, if they are travelling on their own or if they aretravelling in school or camp groups) and upon the age of the children.
The three major aspects to be considered when organizing rural trips and activitiesfor children are safety, quality time and edutainment.
1.1.1 Safety
Safety is the first aspect to consider when thinking about childrentourism. Parents must feel that their children are safe. Parents must also feel comfortable when leaving their children alone. Children must be safephysically, emotionally, socially and intellectually.
In order to prevent safety threats, it is important to prepare the environment and infrastructure wherechildren are going to play, sleep or study, to carry out supervision duties and to teach children about safety.
1.1.2 Quality time
Children spendquality time when they feel happy, when they have fun on their own, in a group or with their families. Quality time encourages repeat visits
1.1.3Edutainment
Parents want their children to learn as well as to have fun. Edutainment is a form of entertainment designed to educate as well as to amuse.
