Introduction

The importance of selecting the correct coursebook and how to use it is the topic that concerns us to research for this report.
First of all, the essential is to have some common elements that can fill the expectative of thecourse. Outside are many of coursebooks waiting that someone uses them. Most of the time, teachers do not know how to choose a good one, some authors recommend to make a list of the goals that are included in the program of the school in order to choose the most appropriated. About these books, teachers must consider for instance, the culture of the students among other things that would be relevant.Also, it is important to consider the interest and capacity of the students. Offer pleasant activities and according to the coursebook, and relate them to the skills that must be develop. Indeed, the most important thing, use the coursebook as supportive material and never as the guide of a classroom.

As O’Neil pointed out: “students learn what is presented in the book and in the way it ispresented; the educational philosophy of the book will influence the classroom and its learning process.” As a result, then, materials become the center of instruction and they are one of the most important influences inside of a classroom, that is exactly what we as teachers have to avoid, because the important thing of course book is gave the opportunity of using English in real context, not onlythe way is exposed in the coursebook.

On the other hand, teachers want different things from coursebooks and they use them in different ways. Some teachers want a coursebooks to provide everything. They want the teacher’s book to tell us what to do, in which sequence to do each activity and how to assess the progress which our learners have made. However, some teachers do not want thecoursebooks to control their lives. They want to be able to plan their own lessons or even their own syllabus. They want the coursebooks to be a library of material from which they can choose to be used in ways they choose.




Choosing coursebooks

For Oxford’s Dictionary a coursebook is a book used by students when they do a particular courseof study, there are many different kinds of English coursebooks which are designed for different purposes, levels and ages. It all depends on what the school or teachers want students learn. For instance, some coursebooks are designed for developing the four skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), but in other cases it will focus on just some or one of them. Therefore, coursebookshave many benefits in the education of students and also in forming values on them without to be explicit and also revealing new cultures and history to the students.
The benefits of using coursebooks: offer a coherent syllabus, satisfactory language control, motivating texts, tapes and some another technological medias for use them in order to accomplish the topic. In addition, students likecoursebooks if the teachers work with them properly, because coursebook foster students look back at for revision and engaging with the followings topics.
On the other hand, the restrictions when coursebooks are used inappropriately, because they were not choosing well, will result in a failing class or in the worst case for the whole course, because it does not fix with the curriculum. As an...
