Christmas and history have something in common? Well in Norway they do. The tradition or customs ofChristmas in Norway are related with their history especially in the XIX century.
One of the tradition of Christmas in Norway is based in a myththat says that in time of Christmas ,the evil spirits and witches go out to kill the youngest person in the town. The tradition is that in 24December before midnight women of the families hide all the brooms of the house to avoid the witches. Meanwhile the men of the families go outside toshoot in the air to scare the evil spirit.
The most popular tradition of Christmas in Norway is the Big Christmas Tree that Norway gives to the UKevery year. The Norwegian do that in a way to say “Thank you for your help “ . The United Kingdom during the second World War the UK help Norway .They gave them protection and the Norwegian decided to give them a big thee for Christmas every year since 1945.
Norwegian have a strong feelingfor their history, so they try to relate and kind of celebration with their history, including Christmas. Their traditions are very strange forsome people. I mean in Norway people sing “Go away bad spirits “ Meanwhile in U.S.A sing ”We wish you a Merry Christmas” . But for all, Christmasis a time to be in family. The tradition can be different , but the meaning of Christmas never changes , it‘s to be with the people that you love
