Before the Nicaraguan Revolution took place, the U.S had complicated relations with the country. This was because in the 1920's the United States had a vast occupation in Nicaragua, which led to the discontent of some people, such as Augusto Cesar Sandino. He thought that Nicaragua was losing hissovereignty and that it was starting to become a colony of United States. His acts were so iconic that many people followed his ideals to form a group called Sandinistas. In 1934 Sandino was kidnapped and murdered by a man called Anastasio Somoza. Somoza was educated in the U.S and highly approved by the west superpower. He took power and ruled Nicaragua with a fearful dictatorship. Also at that timeCuba felt the same way about the U.S. They felt as if the country needed the superpower to be able to exist as a country of their own. This led to the Cuban revolution were a socialist party took power and started connections with Ussr. It was Somoza's dictatorship and the example of the Cuban Revolution which led the Nicaraguan people to have revolutionary thoughts. That's how the FSLN ( FrenteSandinista de Liberacion Nacional) grew larger and finally out casted violently the Somoza dictatorship. The FSLN governed form 1979 to 1990 with a large approval of the people. As it took the socialist side, the U.S started with different ways to try to overthrow the FSLN. They helped the Contras, a group of rebels which opposed the dominant party, they were against all of the ideals of Sandino, they were the ones called anti-Sandinistas. This group called Contras, organized in guerrillas, were supported with more than 19 million dollars in military aid by the U.S. It was here when the Ussr and Cuba got involved. Cuba started assisting the FSLN sending doctors and technicians and the Ussr shipped military equipment including high tech helicopters. It was clear how each superpower weretaking sides, the U.S helping the anti-Sandinista group, the Contras, and Ussr helping the government of Nicaragua clearly wanting to expand communism. During this part of the revolution Ronald Reagan became president of the U.S and change drastically the ways of dealing with the Nicaraguan Revolution. He provoked the so called Iran gate incident. Here Ronald Reagan violated one of his own countrylaws. As said before there were wars and disputes in Nicaragua to conform the dominant party, but the superpowers started interfering in the country making Nicaragua a classic cold war conflict. It is important to notice that the actual war held by the FSLN against the Somoza dictatorship isn't that much important as the actual background and the after events of that war which are going to beanalyzed in the following paragraphs.
To answer the question it is important to analyze with detail what happened between 1910 until 1930. The U.S occupied the territory of Nicaragua throughout all of this years. The reason was because they wanted to make sure that no other country helped on the construction of the Nicaraguan Canal. The problem was that their occupation of the country started to...
