Civil engineering Inglés para fines específicos I
Civil contemporary engineering begins between the XIXth and XXth centuries, with the development of mathematical models of calculation(Castigliano, Mohr, Navier,…). In Spain, it begins with Agustin de Betancourt. Agustin de Betancourt, of Canary origin, travels to Paris, where studies civil engineering in “l’École de Pont et Chausses”. Tohis return to Spain it founds the “Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos” of Madrid in 1802. The aim is to create an engineers' body with a high formation that couldattack a great extension of the civil infrastructure in the Spain of the 19th century.
2. Branches of civil engineering
2.1. Structural engineering Structural engineering calculates the minimalresistance of elements submitted to alive loads, dead loads and eventual loads (earthquakes, winds, snow, etc.), trying a condition of minimal service to the minor possible cost. 2.2. Geotechnicalengineering Geotechnical engineering calculates the resistance between particles of the terrestrial mantle of different nature, granulometry, dampness, cohesion, and of the properties of soils in general, inorder to assure the interaction of soil with the structure. In addition, it realizes the design of the foundation or support for buildings, bridges, etc. 2.3. Hydraulic engineering Hydraulic...
