Colonialism in Egypt
Why Britain liberates Egypt from Africa and them colonized them? Is Britain a good country because they gave Egypt freedom of France? During colonialism in Africa, European countries divided Africa as a piece of cake, one them was Egypt one of themany Britain territories but this territory was not originally British instead it was France but Britain took it off France and established a protectorate giving them total economic, political and social issues. This country did not get their freedom so easily, Egypt was a colony for a long time as many others but in this case the interesting part comes when two or more countries fought for thesame place because of resources and political domination, behind this fought colonization there were many reasons and most of the colonized events in Egypt were no totally British. But underneath colonization in Egypt and the decolonization or independency there’s the process , how was the process of colonization? , What political system they impose in Egypt to establish “order”? , What Britain leftto Egypt? . In this short essay we will explain the colonization and independency of Egypt.
The French first colonized Egypt but British wanted more territory so they got Napoleon (gubernator of Africa during 19th century) out of Africa and established a protectorate in Egypt giving themselves total control in economic, political and social issues. Many people will thought if they giveindependence to Egypt from a country them British should recover there territory but what happen after French left Egypt was totally the opposite. Egypt economic situation before colonization was quite good and organized, in the social part Egypt had social classes or in other words there were different roles depending of your wealth and family, but when Britain came to Egypt all this social structurechange negatively. When British colonized Egypt they gained control of the Suez canal a major part of world trade routes. British impose heavily taxation on the ships that passed through. Mass amount of money Egyptians never saw, the money they gained was sending straight to the British government profit. Egyptians began to leave the country when they knew that Britain colonized Egypt for a “profitablebusiness” instead of restoring independency and rights to them. British government knew that without Egyptians there would be no one that can maintain their land so they would money, which wasn’t a choice to British, they impose heavy public taxes on the Egyptians, something that the Egyptians never had. These taxes were so heavy or expensive that in order to pay them, people needed to stay inEgypt in order to pay them off.to make money they were forced to worked and maintain their own land for the British. After paying taxes they had left so little money that was just enough to buy food and other necessities. Basically they couldn’t leave their own land even if they want it. Aside from Britain’s economic wealth, Egypt’s political situation or “opinion” was declined since it wascolonized by Britain. Because Egyptians couldn’t give their opinion or even take their own decisions they felt eager to know that their once powerful government was now by the total control of British. Egyptians once thought that because great Britain give them independence from France hey could create a “British-Egyptian” government but now it was just a British government, so Egyptians decided to maketheir own secret Egyptian government, to govern themselves this little government was in fact a general assembly of less than twenty people. However the British did not heard what the general assembly suggest, they slowly became a rebellion against the British. Without taking importance to the General Assembly, British government used their new territories to make new profits including the Suez...
