1 .Community relations are ways organizations use to establish and maintain and enhance a relationship with the communities in which they operate, which benefits both parties. Organizations use threelevels in community relations.
Defensive; guarding against negative acts or news.
Proactive; positive acts that appeal to the public.
Maintenance; keeping the established good relationship withthe public.
There are two levels of programs that companies use in public relations. The old world or superficial way which is to be a good member of the community, take part in public events, haveopen house tours, let their facilities be used, treat their employees well and let them sing the companies praises in the community and have a reprehensive in all important community groups.
Theother type of community relations used by companies is for the company or organization to be more involved in community, have a more two way communications between company and community. Being involvedin community projects, having local community relations boards. Employee volunteer programs and making company expertise available to local communities.
Companies who want to have a positive impact oncommunities plan and organize their community relationships very carefully.
They chose which groups in community the need to be targeted. What information need to be acquired before they start andhow should they act on that information.
They have to reach and positively influence the community leaders whose opinion maters
They have to decide on if they are going to have employee voluntaryactivities or official activities or both in the community
If they don’t have a good reputation in the community they have to decide if they need to work at bettering those relationships themselves orfind partners who have a good reputation in the community and improve the company’s reputation by association.
