1. Walt Disney
The company synonymous with Mickey Mouse is becoming reliant on an even bigger star to drive its bottom line: ESPN.
The cablesports network is a powerhouse brand for Disney, reaching 98 million American homes and known for its cultlike following among sports fans. Last year it was responsible for nearly half of Disney'soperating income, according to Deutsche Bank analyst Doug Mitchelson.

2. Intel
It was a tough year for Intel: Demand for its chips plummeted as PC sales in suffered in 2009.
But the massive chipmaker,which controls 80% of the world's PC microprocessor market, kept innovating. It just launched the first-ever 32-nanometer chip, a smaller, faster, more powerful chip expected to become the industrystandard. It was developed as part of Intel's "tick tock" strategy -- a goal to introduce new cutting edge products every 12 months.

UPS ships four billion parcels a year, but Big Brown is betterknown for the small things, like genial drivers (trained to use the cheery greeting, "Hello? UPS!").
Its attention to product quality shows up in some expected ways, like its new iPhone app fortracking packages, and in more unconventional ideas: Its new "Carbon Neutral" option allows customers to pay to offset the carbon emissions created by shipping their package. UPS will match each payment,up to $1 million, until the end of 2010.
