Abstract.

This action research project shows how the improvement of the learning condition can help to expand the uses of language in a EFL classroom in a public institution in (Envigado,Colombia).This project was carried out during a period of 5 months and it illustrates how the enhancement of students conditionsfor learning English can help to expand the uses of the language beyond the grammar centered use in the class. The results show the positive response of student to the improvement of their learning conditions. A journal and surveys to students and cooperating teacher demonstrate the positive response of student to the new stimulus proposed during the time the project was executed.

This action research project was carried out in a period of five months as part of my teaching practicum in a public institution as a requirement to receive the Bachelor in EducationDegree in foreign languages teaching (English and French) in the Universidad de Antioquia, Colombia.

This is an action research project conducted during my teaching practicum of Licenciatura en Lenguas Extranjeras, which is aprogram of the School of Languages of Universidad de Antioquia. This project was carried out with a group of 10th graders from Institución Educativa Normal Superios de Envigado , a public school located in Envigado, colombia. The aim of this project was to extend the uses of English language in the class through the improvement of the learning conditions. The idea of this project came after aperiod of observation of five months in which I had the chance to identify several difficulties as the lack of interest of students in the area, the grammar centered instruction carried on for the cooperating teacher, and the lack of certain aspects of teaching that make learning meaningful. I associate these aspects to what Brian Camborne “conditions for learning” and so I decide to improve thecondition for learning in the class so students develop a better attitude to English and expanded the uses of it.
In this research project paper it is included the description of the teaching context, as well as the characteristics of the school, its organizational framework, the description of the English class, of the students, of the cooperating teacher, and the English methodology adopted....
