In this article the author tried to influence the readers about the pleasures and benefits of reading well. The author, Harold Bloom, portrays a different view on reading. Many of us average humanbeings read when we have too, or on other occasions. I, myself don't have the opportunity to read with free time. Life is so time consuming, along with reading. A person can never have the chance toread with everything that is happening around the community, society, or workplace. During the childhood age, people tend to watch more television and spent too much time on the computer decreasing theirknowledge; there are still many people who enjoy reading whether they are old or youth.
What exactly is the purpose of reading when we have no time? Must we commit ourselves to the burden ofreading in a situation where we aren't comfortable or even desire of reading?
Mr. Bloom's first principle "clear your mind of can't" is a perfect example why others can read, depending on thestory or article you have selected. I, on the other hand choose not to read. It's not a choice of saying “I can't read", but I don't feel like it.
Do you ever feel like reading for personal gain Mr.Bloom? If so, why do you choose to? You even said that reading is time consuming and that we must gain a natural lesson from reading. I rather wait for it to come my way instead of putting the time out ofmy schedule to open a paperback book to learn it.
In Bloom's second principle "Do not attempt to improve your neighbor or neighborhood by what or how you read"; says to me that what youread is to improve your own problems. It is for your own personal gain. If I was to read a health digest article on a proven diet, that's for me to benefit from. Don’t try to develop the reading skillsof your surroundings; a good reading habit is a self-improvement, women and men are both individual and each person needs to discover their way to read.
