“Grandma Ling”is a poem that is about a young woman, that all her life has had one big wish: to meet her family, her grandma. There`s one problem though, they live halfway across the world in China. Once she got totravel there, she met her grandma and saw that she reflected herself; they didn’t speak the same language but understood each other in the silence of their hug, like family does. “Grandma Ling” is apoem that the theme is what the author learned from her grandmother, that family will always understand you. The author and her grandmother understand each other even though they don’t speak the samelanguage.
“Legacy II” is another poem, about a man and his grandfather who was poorly educated and spoke just a few words in English; he was an immigrant living in the U.S. He would always talkabout simple things, and once taught his grandson the four names of the cardinal points. The man let the time pass, and now that he looks back he wishes he were at the place his grandfather was that day,at the point of having knowledge in life.“Legacy II” is a poem in which the narrator learns that knowing about a few simple things is more important that knowing the things you learn studying.
