Competition Between Right And Wrong
Competitive events exist since the beginning of time; they were created to determine the supremacy of one human being over the other, physically speaking.For some time now, sport competitions have been affected by a revolutionary phenomenon: technology. Because of new technology, from anabolic steroids up to the invention of mechanical appliances thatimprove the athletes’ performance, many modifications have been made in sports in the recent years. Today we have many sporting events that would have been impossible thirty years a go. A great exampleis the Paralympic games. Sadly but true the reality is that there are more cons than pros in this evolution. This is why rules have been created to regulate the use of technology in sports and insome cases, to veto them. One of the reasons why the use of technology in some sports is vetoed is the fact that it’s virtually impossible for a regular athlete to match the physical performance of aperson who is using a technological advance such as an anabolic steroid. Another reason is that these steroids could constitute a serious danger to athletes.
Oscar Pistorius is a South Africanman who was born without the bones from the knees down and had both of his legs amputated. However, this did not diminish his desire to be an athlete and he has dedicated his life to sports. With hislove to sports in combination with discipline, determination and some devices in the form of "J" springs in his legs, he has managed to become one of the fastest runners worldwide; winning gold medalsin various competitions. Obviously, his achievements have raised several questions in regard of the use of technology and scientific advances; many people think that it is unfair that he has earned allthose titles when he don’t even have legs to compete.
