Connectors
Dear Students, this is the list of the connectors.
CONNECTOR | EXAMPLE AND MEANING |
1.-And (coordinate) | Is used to connect two clauses with the same meaning: Tom issinging, and Paul dancing. |
2.-But (coordinate) | Is used to connect two clauses but making a difference: I’m tall but you´re short. |
3.-Or (coordinate) | Is used to connect twoclauses giving option or possibilities: I will go to the mall or not. |
4.-So (coordinate) | Is used to connect two clauses with a consequence: I fail the exam so i´m going to ordinary exams.|
5.-Yet (coordinate) | Is used to connect two clauses something in present and the other that will happen. I’m studying for the test, yet I’m not ready for it. |
6.-Before (time)| Is used to connect two clauses, saying that one went after another. Before I went to the school, I take a shower. |
7.-After (time) | Used to connect two clauses but saying something willhappen after the other. I´m going to study, after I finish this movie. |
8.-As (time and cause) | Used as a conditioner or a moment of time that passes to connect two clauses. As he comescloser the smell is worst |
9.-As long as (time) | Used to connect two clauses with a period of time. As long as he stays he will clean all. |
10.-As soon as (time) | To expressimmediately at or after another event. Call me as soon as you arrive. |
11.-By the time (time) | Used to express the time between the first action and the last. By the time you are getting outI will be getting in again. |
12.-Once (time) | Used like a when to connect two clauses. Once he come we get out. |
13.-Since (time and cause) | During a period of time. He hasn'tbeen home since he graduated. |
14.-Until (time) | Up to the time to. I run until I felt down. |
15.-When (time and noun clause) | As soon as, at the time. I will call you when...
