1. The movie shows widespread fascination mixed with panic when the alienmessage is received. How accurate do YOU THINK this was? In other words, how do you think the general public may react if we ever receive a genuine alien contact?

- I think that the degree offascination mixed with panic looks like it would be. Of course, we would be sceptical if we had to deal with this amazing and terrorific (at the same time) scientific discovery. I can speak about what wouldhappen in my circle, my family and me probably would say that the discoverer might be crazy or he will want to make a lot of money with a false notice. However, a part of me would think like I'vethought in all of my life. I might be open-minded with the theory and think about the aliens and our future, our past and our universe. I love thinking about this kind of things, and probably all the worldwould think about the true possibility, but a few persons would believe without proof. Anyway, the film perfectly reflect the feelings of society.

2. Ellen Arroway twice refers to Occam’s Razor inthe movie. Describe her use of this basic logic to defend her positions at one or both points in the movie. How did her experience change her perception?

The main use that she made in the filmare at first when she was having an arguement with her strange Christian boyfriend about God. She said that she believed that the divine creation of the universe is too complicated, and instead ofthat it's simpler to see the physical truth of sciences behind the creation of the universe. This shows that she defends her position with the Occam’s Razor that says: when two equal theories have thesame consequences, the simpler theory is more likely to be correct. But then, when she lived something unvelibable that was true for her, nobody believed her for the same reason. When she was in the...
