The issue of gun control in America is a politically touchy subject as there are 310 million legal firearms across the country and 55 million voters whoclaim to be gun owners .
After the slaughter of 20 children and 6 teachers in Newtown , Connecticut , President Barack Obama has decided to increase gun control in America.
Secretary of State JohnKerry signed the pact in a ceremony at the UN headquarters . The historic Treaty of Conventional Arms United Nations regulates trade in these weapons has an estimated value of 90 billion dollarsannually.
Before signing an official State Department said the pact not only protects the right to arms, but also " reduce the risk that international transfers of conventional weapons to be used tocarry out the worst crimes in the world " .
