Introduction

The Green Villageis a “Green Campus” initiative. The goal of the Green Campus is to build a sustainable and environmental friendly campus. This campus will be powered 100% by renewables and will be serve as showcase of different technologies. A set of new systems will be designed and built. Systems such as an energy wall, an iconic wind turbine “The Harp”, an electricity producer parking garage base on hydrogenproduction and fuel cells, will be designed and built. All of these are long-term goals and projects, but there is the need to prove and test certain technologies in a very short term, this is why a “Green Village” will be built at the TU Delft Campus.

Green Village

The Green Village will serve as show case of new technologies and energy systems. This village will serve as attraction forother companies and projects to join the Green Campus initiative. Companies will be able to join the initiative, prove and test their new energy technologies and techniques. This will be a joint effort between companies and academia. The final goal is to build an autarkic “island”, which is going to be used as offices, dormitories, restaurant and other different leisure facilities. This island, asautarkic mentions, is to be built in an isolated way, where all the energy will be collected from the environment and transformed into electricity for its use. A new DC Grid is being developed. Other systems such as rainwater collection and treatment for its human use are being designed. Waste recollection and management is another of the issues to be solved. The Green Village will connect, test and...
