The Porter’s 5 Forces tool is a simple but powerful tool for understanding where power lies in a business situation. This is useful, because it helps you understand both the strength of your current competitive position, and the strength of a position you’re looking to move into.
Based on these five forces this paper aim to be an analysis and describe each of themapplies in COSCO one of the biggest shipping companies in China.

COSCON Container Lines Co., Ltd. (COSCON) is one of the world’s leading providers of integrated container shipping service.

As a premier carrier of refrigerated commodities for both import & export, COSCO has been very successful in providing the most specialized handling and reporting to meet the most stringent demands of the top importers and exporters in the world.

By December 31 of 2011, COSCON has 157 container carries with a carrying capacity of up to 667970TEUs. Connecting more than 159 principal ports in over 48 countries and regions across the world, the Company operates over 76 international shipping routes, 10 international feeder routes, 21 coastal routes in China and 67 routes in the Zhu Jiang delta and the Chang Jiang River. With an annual carrying amount of 6,910,041 TEUs, 11.2% higher over the last year, the carrying capacity of COSCON hasreached high up in the world chart.
