Creativity in the Classroom

What is creativity? Like we all know creativity is having the ability to use our imagination to generate new ideas especially inthe artistic context. Any type of classroom should facilitate this no matter what subject is being taught. But for our dismay things are not like this. There is indeed a “gap between faculty andstudent expectations that leave both parties unfulfilled’ like it was mentioned in the essay “Creativity in the Classroom” by Ernest L. Boyer.
In the essay, Boyer pointed out that “if faculty and studentsdo not see themselves as having important business to do together, prospects for effective learning are diminished” Boyer - Page 83. Being an undergraduate student I can say that most of my days Ifeel like they are in vain. Half of the time I don’t feel the importance of paying any attention to class or to any of the procedures. The only thing I feel is the obligation of completing the course soI don’t fail and have to repeat it. Although I attend to all of my classes I can barely keep myself focused. Usually I sit silently and wait desperately for the class to be over.
Whether weunderstand the concept or not, whether we have time to analyze or even to study either way we have to pass the test. This is the reason why so many students tend to cheat. Boyer said “the activities likecheating on assignments and buying term papers erode the quality of education,” with which I really agree. I’ve know a couple of students that are successful in the whole class but in the final examsthey fail just because they cheated on their midterms and have gain no knowledge what so ever. In some classes professors even point out exactly what’s coming on the exam just because they don’t havecontrol over the situation. Also, some of those so called “professors” just give you a good grade so you don’t have to repeat the class. Ultimately this lead to dissatisfaction and it puts to a shame...
