GUHRING has marked its Standard Tap Series with color rings to help you quickly and confidently choose the correct tool for your job. Each ring relates to the unique machining behaviors of different materials as dictated by their type and condition. The role of material type and condition in selecting the proper tap for each application cannot beoverstated. So how do you use the GUHRING Tap Compass™ to find your way to improved tapping performance? • The GUHRING Tap Compass™ lists a wide range of workpiece materials by type and condition, and identifies a “Recommended” and “Alternate” color ring for each group. Just find your material, and you will find your ring. • Once you know the optimum color ring for your material, you will need to answer 3quick questions to pinpoint your route to the proper tool: What type of hole are you tapping? Through hole or Blind hole. What type of thread do you need? UNC, UNF, M or MF. What tool standard do you require? ANSI or DIN. • With your answers in hand, you are ready to navigate to your color ring’s Series pages and find the exact style and size of tap you need for your job. It’s that easy! The TapCompass begins on page 14. On the entry pages for each color ring section you will find the recommended tapping speeds for your job – again specified by material type and condition. In the technical section of the catalog you will also find a broad overview of potential speeds for both cut and form taps.
