Culture in puerto rico
An example is Puerto Rico, where the culture (although it does not want to accept) is sexist. We can see the social expectations' for each sex, where women are expected to take care of the houseand children, while men work hard to bring home the financial support. Women are expected to be submissive and obey everything her partner says, while men must show to be strong and being the boss ofthe house. Even many things have changed, others are still the same.
For decades we heard that "men do not cry," making men do not want to show their feelings for fear of losing their"virility." While the woman was considered the "crybaby" and "sentimental." No man scrubbing, cooking, sweeping, mapping, washed clothes, among many other things, because that was "women's work". Most men donot hug or kiss their children, because "it was for women." Women could not work out something other than housekeeping and / or secretary. Women could not give his opinion, and were considered "gross"while men were the "smart" and had full right to talk and discuss any issues. In marriages was common adultery by men whose wives were at home caring for 6 or 7 children and being subject to one man(of course, exceptions were given!). Women were like property, and had to do what the husband said. They had to act, dress and speak as her husband like.
