ALERT! Corruption

We all know that Mexico has major problems, that is a given, but a few of the most common ones - those we are more aware of since we hear about them day by day - are corruption, lack of education, obesity, lack of security and drug trafficking, among others.

The topic I consider the most problematic one in society it’s corruption. This “phenomenon” is observed all aroundthe country. Social classes or level of “education” don’t matter, because nowadays is a behaviour we have taken as something usual and normal; something acceptable and even necessary. We don’t considerit wrong anymore.

Ironic.

We know pretty well that corruption is inside politics, police departments, schools, hospitals, public or private businesses, foundations, charity organisations, media, prisons... everywhere.

A good and clear example of an act of corruption that is committed everyday, for sure, is when the try to give you a ticket. It’s really bad that authorities themselves notonly accept this behavior from drivers, but they are - sometimes - the first ones requesting this bribe.

We don’t even need to hide anymore.

Society has developed a tolerance and acceptancetowards this behaviour that nobody cares about it anymore. Mexico’s culture is so used to seeing this, and hearing about it, that it no longer disgusts us.

We all know about this situation and isfrustrating that society, and the government, don’t do anything about it.

It’s because everywhere you turn, there is corruption.

There is no way this problem could be stopped completely, but I thinkif we stop bribing police officers - at least - then this problem could be reduced considerably. It won’t be easy, since every single government worker considers bribes to be “a necessity”. In manycases, you cannot get what you want without offering some short of “payment”, but little by little, the amount of people asking for one could be reduced if we just stop offering... or paying it....
