Darién
Darien is the largest province of Panama and the least populated. Its capital is La Palma, created in 1922. The province is divided into 2 districts: Chepigana and Pinogana, consisting of25 townships. Then there is the Embera-Wounaan divided into two areas (have autonomy to administer and manage their territory).
Darien's population is mostly comprised of indigenous, African andsettlers who migrated from other provinces (mainly people from Chiriquí, Los Santos, Herrera, and Veraguas) in search of good land and better opportunities.
It is common for food preparation as theseafood guacho, fish and coconut rice, also the serendengue among others. A drink made from boiled plantains is kind of traditional, which here is called "choca'o".
Geography
The tallest mountains ofthe province are: Tacarcuna (2,280 m.s.n.m.), Piña (1,581 m.s.n.m.), Pirre (1,569 m.s.n.m.), Nique, Chucantí, Pavarandó, Armila, Tanela, Sapo y Altos del Quía.
In relation to the country, Darien has8% of land suitable for intensive cultivation, 60% suitable for pasture, permanent crops and forestry production, and 25% for protection and forest reserves. The natural vegetation is dominant in theDarien forests, which according to the topographic elevation and rainfall patterns are classified as tropical humid, very humid tropical montane rain.
As for the climate, Darien is a very humid andrainy region. This factor, together with the small population, is crucial in the conservation of fauna and flora, as it is one of the most ecologically diverse regions of our planet.
It is importantto note that Darien is currently a boom in tourism, as Darien has 100 attractive islets and islands like San Blas, El Porvenir and Narganá.
