What’s New in Seagate Crystal Reports 8

Seagate Crystal Reports is the world’s most widely used reporting tool with over four million users.

This latest version of Seagate Crystal Reports offers a new, comprehensive web reporting solution to access, analyze and report on data. In addition, version 8 incorporates a significant number of enhancements andnew features which serve to augment the capabilities of Seagate Crystal Reports in the following areas:

• Developer Tools
• Performance
• Usability
• Integration with Microsoft® OfficeTM

To read a synopsis of the specific enhancements made in each area, please refer to the Crystal Reports User’s Guide (UserGde.pdf) located in the \Docs directory of your product CD.

For a morecomprehensive discussion detailing the new features that have been added to version 8, please see the file features.doc, also located in the \Docs directory of the product CD.


Installation and System Requirements

Installation instructions are available from the Crystal Reports User’s Guide or from the file install.rtf, both of which are located in the \Docs directory of the product CD.

Notethat the following system requirements must be met when installing Seagate Crystal Reports 8:
• Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, or higher
• Minimum RAM: 16 MB (32 MB for Windows NT)
• Recommended RAM: 32 MB
• Minimum hard drive space required: 30 MB
• Maximum hard drive space required (Full Install): 210 MB





Features No Longer Supported

The following identifiesthe feature components that are no longer supported in this version of Seagate Crystal Reports:

• Compiled Reports and the Report Distribution Expert

The Compile Report option and the Report Distribution Expert are no longer available with this release. Users are encouraged to distribute reports using the new Web Component Server. For existing users who choose to continue using the CompileReport option and the Report Distribution Expert, these components will be available for download as the "Compile Reports and Distribution Expert" component from the Seagate Software Community web site, at http://community.seagatesoftware.com. After downloading and installing this component, two options, "Compile Report" and "Report Distribution Expert", will be available under the Report menu ofthe Crystal Report Designer.

For more information on migrating from compiled reports to distributing reports over the web, please read the technical brief available on the Seagate Software Community web site at http://community.seagatesoftware.com. For information on using the Web Component Server, please refer to Chapter 17 of the User's Guide and the Web Reporting Administrator's Guide(web.pdf), both of which are located in the \Docs directory of the product CD.

• Document Import Tool

The Document Import Tool is not shipped with Seagate Crystal Reports 8. Users will be able to download the Document Import Tool from the Seagate Community web site at http://community.seagatesoftware.com.

• Essbase Report Script Method

The Essbase Report Script method (P2OSBSE.dll) is notshipped with this version of Seagate Crystal Reports. As such, old reports that use the Essbase Report Script method cannot be run on Seagate Crystal Reports 8.

To create new reports on Essbase data, users are encouraged to use the enhanced driver, ESSBHAPI.dll, which supports a variety of new features for the Grid Object method of Essbase reporting. This driver is automatically installed when...
