DEMOCRATIC REVOLUTION OR NOT

This brief essay aims to reflect my point of view about the unstable situation and constant conflict in which the countries of African continent are currently, as well as a critical and positive view about a democratic process in their Islamic countries. In this sense, I have wanted to highlight the situation through a structure of questions and answer and oneshort conclusion about the state of affairs.

1. Situation analysis:

What do major factors trigger the popular revolts in Africa?

* Religious and ideological: the Islamic religion and the ideological principles which it defends, is one of the factors that contrast with democratic principles known currently. Although the role of women and the defense of their rights is present in thepublic sphere with increasing intensity, the different treatment between men and women still are evident as a result of religion. In this sense, in my opinion, the most intense problem reflected in the lack of combination between democracy and Islam, is determined by the extremism which exists in the continent about the interpretation of the principles derived from the Koran; as well as the closelinks their daily practice with the holy book which takes into account for the development of all areas of their daily lives. In short, Islam is a complete way of life for Muslims and do not see the separation of religion and existence. However it is true that there are now more moderate trends causing the separation and tensions between the population and further exacerbated the conflict.* Social and cultural: ethnic and tribal diversity coupled with fear due to the instability which is suffered by the African population whose considerations have little political influence, causes national disparity. Moreover, the degree of illiteracy among the population is very high and diseases have become very serious deadly attacks even among the younger population. These tiny educational andhealth conditions prevent a strengthening of the territory which lives in conditions as "fight for survival" without the direction of a stable and sensitive government that leave aside the struggle of power and it worries firmly of serious problems suffered by the population.

* Economical and technological: in spite of the great amount of natural resources (minerals, oil, precious stones…)that have the Arab countries of Africa, the lack of development, uncontrolled demographic and poverty afflict the African population to the point of making it a third world continent which requires the presence and international intervention constantly. From the colonial period, the clash of interests of both USA and European and Asian powers for control of the African continent and its energysources, underscores the weakness of the territory and makes it harder to expand it autonomously towards a consolidated, secure and welfare economy. In fact, in countries where foreign interests are growing (e.g. Libya), international organizations act faster and persistence to stabilize conflict situation and establish a climate of peace, than in those where resources are more limited. From myperspective, it reflects the real lack of awareness with the effective struggle for peace that preach world powers as theoretically. Furthermore, the incredible technological advances of recent times have spread more quickly and poise the current world situation, reflecting the divergent situations in European countries with democratic roots and Arabs where the institutional basis are not settledneither have a fixed path but it reported to the discretion of "every politician of the moment" and his absolute rule, causing the reaction and popular rebellion in search of a context of equality and participation to enable them to live more worthily.

* Political and institutional: authoritarianism and dictatorship are the forms of government characteristic of most countries where Islam is...
