Miniramp/Vertramp skateboarding is a style of skateboarding that involves transitions. A transition, in skateboarding terms, is a changein terrain from flat ground to any kind of slope. This can include, but isn't limited to, miniramps, vert ramps, quarter pipes, and full pipes. This type of boarding is very popular today among theyoung and old, because as long as there is some kind of transition, then one can skateboard. This style of boarding is also fairly easy to learn, and allows progression to harder and harder transitions.The two most favored types of transitions are the 'miniramp' and the 'vert ramp'. The miniramp is a small transition. Many skaters who are just starting out like this ramp the best. It's short, withno vert, and a very shallow transition. It's easy to learn tricks on a miniramp and a fall won't hurt too much. As you progress, moving on to ramps with a deeper transition will offer more challenges.Eventually taking up 'Vert' skateboarding offers the biggest challenge. Vert half pipes are ramps that have a vertical wall at the top of the transition. The vert on a ramp can range anywhere from 1'to 3' or more. Vert boarding is, in my opinion the, most fun. It allows greater speed when maneuvering on the transitions, and is more versatile than the smaller ramps. An important part oftransition skateboarding is equipment. Having the right kind of skateboard can greatly improve your ability to skate well on transitions. An eight and a half inch wide board is not uncommon for this style. Infact all the skateboard components should be somewhat oversized, such as larger wheels and larger axles, to name a few. Having a good helmet, kneepads, and elbow pads are also a good idea whentackling the larger ramps. As you can see, transition skateboarding can be a lot of fun.
