ABSTRACT

To determine the effect of the relationship foliage / root on the premature grape dehydration an essay was conducted in a vineyard cv. Merlot, 4 years old, during the season 2002-2003, located at Apalta, VI region, Chile. The vines planted at a distance of 1.5 x 1.0 m,conducted in a vertical simple trellis (north south) and irrigated by a drip system. The treatments were ordered in blocks at random design with five replications. The treatments consisted in the application of a antitranspirant product Vapor Gard (di-1-p menthene) and the reduction of the leaf area in 40 %. The following parameters were measured: grape weight and diameter, water potential of thexylem, soil moisture, foliar area, incidence and severity of plants and clusters, roots distribution, pruning weight of and chemical composition of the must (soluble solid, pH, total acidity). Also it was determined the relationships foliage/roots. The antitranspirant product did not reduce the premature dehydration of the grapes, reflected in a higher percentage of the clusters with thisdisorder and grapes with a lower weight, compared with plants with a reduced leaf area. Then, this last treatments was effective reducing this problem. The distribution and quantity of roots was similar for both treatments. The same was observed for the relationships foliage/root, grape diameter, water potential of the xylem, soil moisture. Stadistical differences were found to grape weight, pruningweight, leaf area of the season growth, percentaje of clusters and plants with disorder and its severity.

RESUMEN

Con el objetivo de determinar el efecto de la relación copa/raíz sobre la deshidratación prematura de bayas, se realizó un ensayo durante la temporada 2002-2003 en la localidad de Apalta VI región. El cultivar utilizado fue Merlot de 4 años de edad, plantado a una densidad de 1,5 x1,0 m, regado por goteo y conducido en espaldera vertical simple (orientación norte-sur). El ensayo se condujo como un diseño en bloques al azar con cinco repeticiones. Los tratamientos consistieron en la aplicación de un antitranspirante Vapor Gard (di-1-p menthene) y la reducción del área foliar a un 40% en los cuales se midieron las siguientes variables: diámetro y peso de bayas, potencialhídrico del xilema, humedad del suelo, área foliar, incidencia y severidad en plantas y racimos, distribución de raíces, peso de poda y composición química del mosto (sólidos solubles, pH, acidez total), además se determinó la relación copa/raíz. El antitranspirante utilizado no fue efectivo para disminuir la deshidratación prematura de las bayas lo que se reflejó en un mayor porcentaje de racimos...
