Developing Oral Competences

Competence in oral communication is indicated by demonstrating the ability to transmit clearly ideas and information orally in a way that is appropriate to the topic, purpose, and audience. It also involves demonstrating the ability to discuss ideas clearly with others, to hear and respond to questions, and to assess critical response appropriately.

 Defining the oral communication
It isimportant to mention here that many authors’ definitions of oral competencehave been included. For example, Bygates (1991) defines oral competence asthe ability to form abstract sentences that are produced and adapted tocircumstances at the moment of speaking. Therefore, making rapid decisionsand contributions that adequately fit the situation. On the other hand, O’Maleyand Valdez (1996) say that oralcompetence refers to an ability to understandmeaning between two or more speakers.Yet another definition by Brown and Yule (1983) considers oral competence asan interactive process where a meaning is built on by producing and receivingprocessed information.

The Communicative Method
The communicative method favors interpersonal communication. The methodworks on the integrated skills of oralcompetence, written production, listeningcomprehension, and reading. Authentic language has an important role beingtaken from real life situations. The purpose of the activities is to produce andpromote real communicative interactions.Communicative teaching is organized around the three Ps, ie,presentation, practice, and production.
 
To explain in more detail what the Communicative Method entailsBrown(2000:43) has compiled the following points:1. The object of each class is to focus on all components of language learning(grammar, speaking, functions, sociolinguistics, and strategies) of oralcompetence2. Fluency and accuracy are viewed as the principle objectives of communicativetechniques.3. In a communicative class students have to use the object language4. Students can develop theirown learning strategies to help them obtain theirown objects.5. The role of the teacher is to facilitate and guide, and not to dominate the classby having all the information and knowledge. This promotes genuine interactionbetween students that produces a real opportunity to develop their own reallanguage and confidence.Finally, it is necessary to mention that in a communicative class, inaddition towhat Brown says, it is important that the student is motivated, this isimperative to create an ideal learning environment that includes pictures,drawings, movies, TV shows, and meaningful activities for the student, variety ofactivities, etc.
Speak English Through Games
Learn to speak English is hard, but it need not be boring. When using games for learning to speak English, you can have funwhile continuing to learn. The struggle to beat your challenger or get a high score may inspire you to study and learn more often. Computer games for outdoor activities, there are a number of games you can use to learn to speak English. 

 Definition of Language Games
The term of “language games” refers to the models of primitive language that

So it can be said that language games not only function as time filling activities but also they can bring some educational values that enable the children to learn the language. While Mc Cabe (1992) defines a language games as a spoken routine for two or more players, meant to berepeated many times. This implies that such repetition will enable the children to communicate effectively since playing language games will help the children to develop language and thought. In the activities of language games, the children will develop their ability to say what they mean to say and to express themselves clearly.
