Introduction
The Cannes Film Festival, or in french “Le Festival de Cannes” , which is celebrated every year at May, takes place in the South of France, specifically in the town of Cannes at the “Palais des festivals et des cangrès”. This festival which was founded in 1946, is the oldest and most prestigious film festival around the world, and it meets the most famousfilm bussines` people.
Last year was celebrated the 63rd edition and took place from 12 May to 23 May 2010, the president of the jury for that season was the American film director Tim Burton. The 64th edition will be take place from 11 May to 22 May 2011, and the president of the jury will be the America actor Robert de Niro.

At the end of 30`s Jean Zay, who was the frenchminister of national education , had the iniciative to create a an international cinematographic festival in France, that because the goverments of Italy and Germany were hindering in the selection of films for the Mostra del cinema di Venezia, so he propose many towns as candidates, like Vichy, Biarritz or Algiers, although finally Cannes was the privileged.
In June 1939, Louis Lumière, who iscalled the father of filmaking, agreed to be the president of the first Cannes film festival, this event will take place from 1 to 30 September 1939, but the German attack on Poland on 1 September 1939, followed by the declaration of war against Germany by France and the United Kingdom on 3 September, ended the first edition of the festival before it started.
After the second war the Cannes FilmFestival was relaunched, taking place in the old casino of Cannes, and financed by the French Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Although the initial principal objective of the festival was to compete with its itaian counterpart, they choose to make a agreement, so they began to celebrate theirs international festival in alternating years.
Next year the festival had a great success, and was moved to the“Palais des Festival”, which was made for the occasion.
In 1948 the festival was not held because Budget problems, that event was repeated in 1950.
Before 1951 the festival used to be celebrated at September, but since that year was moved to spring.
After years of “Grand Prix”, which used to be the principal prize, the Golden Palm was created in 1955.
During the 60´s the festival started tochange and began to celebrated parallel sections, like “the international critics´ week”, “the Caméra d’Or”, “he Un Certain Regard section”, others importants chages were the decrease of its lenght, of its films, and the selection of its jury, which had to be film academics, and people from the film industry.

Nowadays the Cannes Film Festival has various sections, whose the mainevent is the oficial selection.
The oficial selection is divided in six activities, one of this is called “in competition” and it choose the winer of the Golden Palm as the best film.
The second activity is the “un certaing regard”, whose principal objective is to show 20 films about differents cultures.
The third activity its in charged to show all that films “out of competition” that do notcompete for the Golden Palm.
Other of those important activities is the special screenings, which treat to recrea tan enviroment especially to a particular identity.
Finally there are the Cinéfondation, where are selected the shorts and medium-length motion pictures from film schools over the world, and the Golden Palm short films awards.
But they are not the only events in The Cannes FilmFestival, there are others parallel sections, like the cannes classics that highlight Works of the past, or the “Tous les Cinémas du Monde” that shows the diverity of the cinema across the world and finally the famous Caméra d’Or, whose objetive is to reward the best first film of the festival, choosing among all debutans’ films.
