DIALOGO I
En este primer dialogo se habla principalmente de polis que fue la unidad social última del antiguo mundo griego: y que a tal centro de población vinieron a someterse a incorporarse despuéslas aldeas circunvecinas. El vínculo original de los que constituyeron la polis debió de ser tribal, de sangre o parentesco, referido a un héroe ancestral, y efectivamente en todas partes quedaron instituciones y usos conformados con ese origen. Pero, en Atenas y en otros sitios, al correr del tiempo y sus azares, sintieron los ciudadanos la comunidad de habitación y de vida como rasgo capital desu unión.
DIALOGO II
En este punto el comienza a hablar acerca de la separación del poder o la oligarquía que es para los ricos una condición previa para la buena marcha de la ciudad, pero no tiene por sí eficacia alguna.
La democracia ateniense y la tiranía siracusana daban al filósofo modelos vivos de dos regímenes políticos existentes en su tiempo. Quedaba un tercero, la oligarquía...
