A Day in Paris
July 18, 2012
Here I am, at the US Airways terminal at the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in Carolina, Puerto Rico, waiting for my flight to Paris. The plane take-off, tookplace sometime near 9:00 am of July 17, 2012. At 12:33 pm the plane landed in Philadelphia airport. Our flight to France departed from Phili at 6:20 pm, and the plane landed today at 7:55 am at theCharles De Gaulle Airport in France, also known as Roissy, for the town located nearby.
It was a smooth trip but too long! So, my parents and I were very anxious to get to our hotel. We went to theclosest Métro station to begin our journey towards the Hôtel New Orient, located at 16 Rue de Constantinople. The Métro system its one of the oldest and best subways systems in Europe. The first Métroline was opened in July 1900.

After a quick nap, my parents decided that the first place they wanted to visit was the Notre Dame Cathedral; yes the church where Disney’s Hunchback ofNotre Dame Movie took place! Awesome is all I can say. The construction began in 1163, during the reign of Louis VII. Over the construction period, numerous architects worked on the site. The towerswere completed around 1245, and the cathedral was completed around 1345.
Next stop was the Arc de Triomphe. It’s one of the most famous monuments in Paris. It’s a symbol of the French nation. Thetriumphal arch is in honor of those who fought for France, in particular, those who fought during the Napoleonic Wars. Engraved on the inside and at the top of the arch are all of the names of thegenerals and wars fought.

Or next stop: the Palais du Louvre (the Louvre Museum). The Louvre was originally a fortress at the end of the 12th Century to defend Paris. After that, itwas the residence for French Kings and Queens. Every king built on a new part in a different style. Since 1793 it has been the national building for art.
