Abstract
This work studies the technical and legalspecifications to deploy a 1 Mbps internet service
using the satellite DVB-S2 standard. The most relevant ITU-R recommendations are presented to establish the main regulations concerning our service on the Ka-Band. The equipment that complies with our service is pre-selected, according to the DVB-S2 (downlink) and
DVB-RCS (uplink) standards used. The main propagation methods and the attenuations
associatedwith the air medium, as the effect of rain, clouds, atmospheric gases or noise temperature that will affect the signal in the link are also studied, to help design the link for
the most common atmospheric situations. Since the service is offered for the whole Europe,
a few reference cities are used to calculate these attenuations, and using this data the final
equipments are selected depending onthe area.
