* CONNECTORS

There are words or expressions the author of a text or speech uses to establish logical, coherence and cohesion relation between word, sentences and even paragraphs; that is to say, connectors are used to connect ideas.
A. Some words and expressions are used to make a comment on what is being expressed.

In fact = I'm going to give you some more detailed information. Peterdoesn't like carrots. In fact, he hates them!
Of course = I'm going to tell you something you expect to hear. Of course, having a baby has changed our life a lot.
Actually = I'm going to give you some information you didn't know. Actually, Jane knows a lot about food. Her parents own a restaurant.
Unfortunately = I'm going to give you some news that is bad. Unfortunately, there was nothing wecould do to help.
Nevertheless = The result or effect of something is not what you would expect.
The accident wasn't her fault. Nevertheless, she felt bad.
Anyway - Let's change the subject and talk about something else. What an awful trip you had! You must be exhausted! Anyway, you're here now so let's not worry anymore.

B. Some words and expressions are used to compare or contrast what isbeing expressed.

George was rich. He wasn't a happy man. Although George was rich, he wasn't a happy man.
George was rich. However, he wasn't a happy man.
George was rich, but he wasn't a happy man.
Carol called me. She couldn't find her passport. Carol called me because she couldn't find her passport.
Carol couldn't find her passport, so she called me.

C. Classification of connectorsA. Additive: The sentence or paragraph introduced by an additive connector adds information that either reinforces or is similar to the one provided in the previous sentence or paragraph.
