About Indian Superstitions

All civilizations have their respectivas superstitions and India is no exception . there anything and everything is possible, because every activity of life is associated with some sort of superstition.

India is one of the most superstition countries around the world regarding animals. For instance, bats and cows are some of them. Firstly,bats represent good luck and prosperity ; elder people say that they are a miracle and prevent disaster. Secondly, the cows are the most sacred animals in India, they walk around th people and cross the streets freely, they can even eat wherever and everything they want in the street markets; people say that these animals represent life, prosperity and food, because the milk can make up for manyfamilies needs.

Religion in India is present in many important aspects of life. For example, many of selections of professional career and marriage partner are based on astrological and religious beliefs. Curiously, the science is not relate with the religion, because explaining the science behind a miracle is an offense that is punishable with imprisonment according to section 295 of the IndianPenal Code.

The "Bindi" is the mark that women carry on he fore head, its origin is religious and denotes that the woman who wears it is married. This accessory is used to avoid the "evil eye ". In general , it is considered like a sign of good luck for marriage, home and children. Currently, this accesory is worn for fashion or because it is already a part of the culture, there are a fewwomen who wear it just for its meaning.

Something that is very typical in India is that even people, who do not believe in God or in other gods, are superstitious. In fact, the least believers and most educated prefer, for the major decisions of their lives, consulting an astrologer and know the omens that will accompany their plans; what is more, some women decide who will be their husbandaccording to the horoscope (if he is not compatible with her, it is dangerous).

Finally, there are many superstitions about dreams too, dreams play an important role for future actions in India, because they define what will happen in the life of the Indian; for example, dreaming that you are riding an elephant means that a great surprise will come. For the Hindus, the spirituality and mind are moreimportant than the body and material things, therefore the dreams meaning are interpreted as future events or divine warnings, they can be good or bad omens; for instance, dreaming your own death means longevity, dreaming with elephants, cows, peacocks of camels represents prosperity, but if you dream of your own marriage it means trouble; dreaming of deserts represents adversity, and if youdream that you are laughing, it means worries in the future.
