What is the title of your project idea? Adapted Resume Briefly describe your teaching idea. Many of us can remember agonizing over our first resume. What was the best way for us to showcase our talents? How would we let the world know our amazingaccomplishments? We may have spent hours at the computer formatting our document just right, squeezing in every drop of information. Now imagine trying to tell the world how incredible you are, when you have significant cognitive impairments, cannot read or write and have limited ability to communicate verbally. The Adapted Resume project is created to assist high school seniors, all of who areintellectually disabled, the opportunity to highlight their strengths, explain their work-related experience, discuss their extracurricular interests and express preferences for future employment. Students will create an individual scrapbook of their accomplishments, using photographs and other documents, which will function as a visual, Adapted Resume. Each entry will focus on the various tasksstudents perform around the school campus or in the community and will include a descriptive statement developed by the student using augmentative technology. Students will use their Adapted Resumes when applying for in-school jobs and as evaluative portfolios. Grade Level: 12th Grade Subject: English Language Arts Objective The Adapted Resume is a Language Arts and Lifeskills based program designedto provide direct, engaging and motivating instruction in career planning and communication to students with significant cognitive disabilities. By combining Florida Sunshine State Standard Access Points in Language Arts and Vocational Lifeskills, this project addresses vocabulary development, main idea, non-fiction writing, career planning, resumes, interviews and interpersonal communication....
