ISO 9001 is the latest in a series of systems that have been implemented over the past 35years, notably among them are: Kaizen, Statistical Process Control, 5S and Kanban. This system is the only premier quality norm which coincides with globalization, essentially combining the 4standard systems. These methods were developed in Europe and the United States during and after World War II. The independent standards were combined in order to facilitate the regulation of quality inimported and exported products. ISO 9001 relies on a series of decisions that begin when upper management recognizes the need to provide their products not only to foreign markets, but domestic as well,which in turn have applied ISO 9001 and require said certification for most suppliers. A study of nearly 500 medium size companies (150 to 1500 employees) in Mexico, the United States and Europe showsthe connection between known audit dates, non-conforming discrepancies and the compliance percentage rates of procedures.
