Title: Dolce et Decorum
Prescribed Question: How and why there is a social group represented in a particular way
War has been something decisive troughout human history, wars can change politicalethical and technological rules of a given time, literature is not an exception, many wars have been the main inspiration of important literal texts raging from the ancient greek wars that were thesubject of masterpieces like The Illiad to, contemporary military conflicts. Behind these literary renditions of war there is always a thing in common, soldiers

The poem Dolce et decorum written byWilfred Owen also has soldiers as the main social group involved in the plot, but first is important to define what a social group, it is often understood that social groups are defined by language, raceor religion but essentially a social group is the interaction of various individuals with some characteristics in common that give the impression of unity, in the case of soldiers their labor wouldbe their common characteristic, but throughout history soldiers have had different connotations.

In ancient times, in places like Rome, soldiers were considered very honorable and respectable, theywere placed in the highest of the social levels at the time, as history progressed soldiers began to be considered to be in the lower social levels, and their godlike attributes were taken away fromthem, the poem is a perfect example of this change.

The poem was written in the period of the first world war, and this is a very important fact because, after world war the whole thinking aboutconflicts changed, the devastating effects it had on society in general where clear, but the effects on soldiers are often overlooked, the poem presents a very chaotic mental imagery in which thesoldiers are inside an attack, they are represented as very vulnerable beings, without hope in themselves or in their countries, this lost hope is best represented in the lines The old Lie; Dulce et...
