George Washington’s painting has been in the white house since 1769, if my friend dolley Madison wouldn’t have saved it the portraitwouldn’t exist anymore, I met dolley at a political party which my brother was invited too and I went with him, I was hungry and went for a snack at the snack bar and then she told me the shrimp was the bestone so we started talking and she introduced me to her wonderful life.

My friend dolley was born in May 20 of 1768 at Guilford County, North Carolina. She moved to Virginia when she wasthree. She remained in Virginia, living on a plantation, until her father freed the family's slaves and moved them to Philadelphia when she was fifteen. In January of 1790 Dolley married a Quakerlawyer, John Todd. The had two boys John Payne Todd in 1790 and William Temple Todd in 1792, But one year later both his husband and his 1st son died because of yellow fever. She met James Madison aleader of the emerging Democratic-Republican Party, and married him in September 15, 1794, after three years of the marriage they moved to Washington because his husband was going to work with ThomasJefferson ,but then dolly’s husband became the united states president and she became the 1st lady .

Being the 1st lady the war of 1812 was going on, she faced the British invasion ofWashington, D.C. in the summer of 1814 with bravery and dignity. On August 22, President Madison left town to review the troops, Mrs. Madison remained in the city even if she knew the British werecoming she was packing government papers into trunks. Dolley Madison still stayed the next day guarding the gates of the white house she also saved stuff like silvery and valuable things from theWhitehouse but what she did that was more valuable was that she saved the portrait of George Washington when the British were about to burn the white house, The British burned the White House and dolley...
