The book to be written about is Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Abraham Stoker was born on November 8th, 1847 in Dublin, Ireland. He died on April 20th, 1912 in London, England. Although he could not stand orwalk until he was seven, he became a very talented soccer player later on. He worked for 10 years in the Irish Civil Service. After he graduated, he served as Sir Henry Irving’s manager untilIrving’s death. Turning from writing letters to writing fiction, Stoker published The Snake’s Pass in 1890 and later on, in 1897 he published his worldwide known masterpiece, Dracula.
Dracula is BramStoker’s most famous work. It is a horror novel featuring the famous antagonist, the vampire Count Dracula. It is narrated with a series of diary entries by some of the characters in the novel. The storybegins with Jonathan Harker’s diary. He is sent to Transylvania to provide legal support to Count Dracula for a real estate investment. Dracula traps Jonathan in his castle and embarks to find Mina,Jonathan’s girlfriend and marry her. Dracula’s attempts to make Mina a vampire and take her with him are frustrated by Jonathan and his friends who kill the Count.
Bram Stoker shared the Victorian-erapurpose of reflecting the behaviors and beliefs of London; he wanted to make the book a mirror in which the people could see themselves reflected and cast their own opinions on issues like the religiousfervor of the time, the Victorian suppression and denial of sexuality in women, the “I am holier than you” attitude of the time and the need to create an alternative world. These issues were theinfluences on Stoker’s work.
The story is settled between England and Central Europe in the nineteenth century. The main conflict of the story is that the vampire Count Dracula is praying upon a groupof English and American men so these men dedicate themselves to the hunt of the evil vampire.
