DRUG TRAFFIC IN THE NORTH OF HONDURAS

Honduras achieved its independence from Spain in 1821, at this time it didn’t enjoy an established political organization, experiencing for several years regular coups and military governments. Although in 1933 the opposed Liberal party took the management of its presidency and congress. Honduras unceasing poverty worsened in late 1998, as a result ofthe disaster caused by Hurricane Mitch. This adversity had serious effects in the infrastructure of Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, and other important cities; it increased the unemployment in the North of Honduras with the destruction of banana plantations and other agricultural businesses. Honduran society battled unemployment and homelessness that then led to the raise in crime, drugtraffic, corruption among others. In the new millennium Honduras manage to recover, to some extent, from the disaster of Hurricane Mitch. There are specialized vehicles and tractor-trailers with undisclosed compartments that are in charge of these deliveries. Also drug dealers have managed to use Honduran airspace to transport cocaine. Honduras has a series of problems like delayed infrastructure progress, unemployment, poor economical development

(based on agricultural products andAsian textile factories) that have facilitated drug trafficking and presented serious challenges to law enforcement efforts.
This country’s population only cultivates illegally a crop named Cannabis, which has a bad quality and small THC content. Some of these cultivations are found in mountains of different departments like: Colon, Yoro, Francisco Morazán, Olancho, Copan and Santa Barbara. Its cultivation depends on climatic circumstances and altitudes; the best time of production is between November and January.
