Se dice que es homogénea si amboscoeficientes M y N son funciones homogéneas del mismo grado. Es decir tienen la propiedad de:

Se dice que tiene coeficientes homogéneos oque es una ecuación homogénea. Nota: Aquí la palabra homogénea no significa lo mismo que en el tema de ecuaciones homogéneas Una ecuación diferencial homogénea siempre puede reducirse a una ecuaciónseparable por medio de una sustitución algebraica adecuada.
Definición: Se dice que
