La alimentación es un proceso diario y esencial para el mantenimiento de la vida; loshábitos alimentarios forman parte de la cultura de cada pueblo, los cuales son aprendidos desde la infancia con los primeros alimentos que se le ofrecen al niño. Los alimentos además de ser necesarios para mantener la vida están vinculados con estilos de vida y tradiciones familiares.

Los alimentos son la fuente de energía y nutrientes. Nutrientes son sustancias que se encuentran en los alimentos yson esenciales para el ser humano, ya que no los podemos sintetizar en cantidad suficiente, como las vitaminas, los minerales y algunos aminoácidos.
